New Cocolife import Marta Drpa vows to bounce back as strong debut not enough to beat Petron

    Apr 10, 2018

COCOLIFE import Marta Drpa gave a strong warning to their opponents after her strong debut ended up wasted in losing to Petron in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Although a sorry five-set loss in her first game in the PSL, the Serbian national team member rounded up 20 points in the Asset Managers’ loss to Petron, 14-25, 25-23, 25-15, 14-25, 13-15.

Drpa, who replaced American hitter Taylor Milton, admitted that she was far from satisfied with her first game in the PSL.

“It can be much better, much, much, much better,” Drpa, who suited up for Serbia in the 2015 World Grand Prix.

If she’s not satisfied, Petron coach Shaq delos Santos and the Filipino fans were impressed with her strong kills, smart plays and drop balls.

“I don’t want to show everything now. I saved something for the quarterfinals. This is just 50 percent of what I can do,” she said.

Cocolife remained at the No. 4 spot with a 6-4 win-loss record and will wait for its opponent in the quarterfinals.

Cignal (3-6) will be against Generika-Ayala (2-7), while Sta. Lucia (4-5) will face winless Smart (0-9) on Thursday.

“I expect a good fight and everything is possible. We have some chance, we faced the former champions it’s good that we can fight with them,” she said.

“(But) we need to make less stupid mistakes and be more focused in important moments,” she added.

Drpa was Cocolife mentor Moro Branislav’s former player as she also played alongside Foton libero Katarina Vukomanovic and Sanja Trivunovic in Serbia.
