NEW setter Alohi Robins-Hardy and returning spiker Jovelyn Gonzaga shone as Cignal took down Sta. Lucia, 25-27, 25-22, 25-10, 25-21, on Tuesday in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Arena in San Juan City.
The HD Spikers showed a lot of promise in parading their retooled roster that kicked off their campaign on a high note as they bucked a lethargic start before sending the Lady Realtors to their third straight defeat.
Robins-Hardy, who was acquired by Cignal from the disbanded United Volleyball Club, made a rousing debut as an HD Spiker as she paced the team with 18 excellent sets and also put up a jaw-dropping 12 points from seven kills, three aces and two blocks.
Gonzaga, who suffered an ACL injury two years ago, delivered 11 points in her PSL comeback.
The mainstays led the charge with Mylene Paat putting up 14 points, while skipper Rachel Anne Daquis delivering 13 points off five blocks including 19 digs. Libero Jheck Dionela had 18 digs and nine excellent receptions.
“Actually kung mapapansin mo medyo magulo pa yung set-up namin especially nung first set,” said Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga. “Minaximize ko lang yung position ng mga spikers ko, nagwork out naman.”
MJ Phillips carried the cudgels of Sta. Lucia with 19 points, while Rachel Austero and Joy Dacoron added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Lady Realtors gave up 38 errors and dropped their third straight match sliding to a 1-3 record.
