BACOOR CITY — Buoyed by its national team players, Cignal dominated PLDT Home Fibr with a rousing 25-19, 25-8, 25-15 victory to start its Pool A campaign in the Philippine Superliga Invitationals on Tuesday at the Bacoor Strike Gym.
Jovelyn Gonzaga, Roselyn Doria, Mylene Paat and Alohi Robins-Hardy just arrived Tuesday morning from the national pool’s Thailand build-up but the HD Spikers were still too much for the Power Hitters winning in just 72 minutes.
Rachel Anne Daquis led the charge for Cignal with 13 points laced with five excellent receptions. Doria delivered 10 markers. Paat and Janine Navarro had six points each, while Gonzaga added five markers.
Setter Robins-Hardy dished out eight excellent sets on top of seven digs and five points as Cignal joined Sta. Lucia for the early lead in Pool A.
“Bago sila pumunta rito tinext ko na sila kailangan pagbalik niyo rito nakamindset na sainyo kung ano yung play natin, defense pattern natin,” said Cignal head coach Barroga on his four players, who helped the national team to finish bronze in the first leg of ASEAN Grand Prix.

“Kahit walang ensayo nagperform naman sila, nagawa naman nila yung dapat mangyari,” he added.
Barroga was glad for the international experience that has been to Cignal’s strong connection as they seek to regain the Invitationals title since winning it last 2017.
“Iba pa rin yung international exposure bukod sa lumakas yung loob nila, marami silang nakitang international skill na nakatulong para sa kanila,” he said.
PLDT missed top scorer Grethcel Soltones, who was under the weather, and Aiko Urdas due to knee injury.
Setter Jasmine Nabor was the top scorer for the Power Hitters with eight points as her team only had two excellent sets and gave up 23 errors.
