CIGNAL import Stiix Horton kept a positive attitude even as the HD Spikers stumble into the second round of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix.
The American hitter was her usual energetic self after a frustrating 24-26, 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 11-15 loss to Generika-Ayala on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan, sinking Cignal to fifth with a 3-4 win-loss record at the end of the first round.
“We’re definitely a lot hungry for the second round and going to the second round we can’t dwell on the first round, you know, you have to move forward,” said Horton.
“The best advice that I got is that the best athletes have to shorten his memory so we can’t remember this game, we just have to keep pushing forward,” she added.
Cignal will be in Pool B with No. 2 F2 Logistics, No. 4 Foton and No. 7 Generika-Ayala in the second round.
“The first round is knowing each other, the next round is moving forward now. So don’t count us out, we’re in the running,” said Horton.
Cignal will make use of the Holy Week break to work on its chemistry.
The HD Spikers will have a two-day team building on Holy Tuesday until Holy Wednesday, they will have a rest on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday but will resume training on Black Saturday.
“During this holy break we’ll work it out, we will have a team building, which I think will help us a lot in the next round,” said Horton.
Meanwhile, top seed Petron will be in Pool A along with third seed Cocolife, sixth seed Sta. Lucia and eighth seed Smart.
