IMPORTS Erica Wilson and Ana Artemeva powered Cignal to its third straight win with a 19-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19 conquest over hapless Generika-Ayala in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Wilson put up 21 points off 17 kills and four blocks, while Artemeva delivered 18 points built on 13 spikes, three aces and a block as the HD Spikers won their third game in a row for a 3-1 win-loss record at third place behind unbeaten leaders Petron and F2 Logistics, who have identical 3-0 slates.
The locals were also instrumental with Mylene Paat chipping in 13 points, while Ranya Musa had six blocks for 10 points. Rachel Anne Daquis came off the bench in the last three sets and had eight markers.
“Nakita ko na hindi effective 'yung first set namin so sinubukan ko 'yung option na si Rachel muna 'yung pamalit. Naging effective kaya dinere-diretso ko na,” said Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga. “Proud ako kasi hindi sumasama 'yung loob nila. Nakita nila na effective so nage-enjoy lang sila para manalo 'yung team.”
Cignal guns for its fourth straight win against United Volleyball Club (1-2) on Thursday.
Generika-Ayala’s new import Kanjana Kuthaisong had 13 points to go with 14 excellent receptions and 10 digs on her debut only for the Lifesavers to remain winless in four games. Angeli Araneta finished with 12 points, Ria Meneses and Patty Orendain contributed 11 and 10, respectively. Kseniya Kocyigit was limited to just six points.
The Lifesavers also battle UVC on Saturday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Meanwhile, American import Grace Lazard poured 18 points for PLDT Home Fibr to sweep Foton in straight sets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.
Lazard had 12 attacks, five blocks and an ace, while Kendra Dahlke contributed 10 markers for the Power Hitters, who collected their second straight win in four games.
“Akala ko nga magiging mabagal ‘yung respomse namin after kami malamangan. Mabuti mabilis nakabawi ‘yung mga bata,” PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb said.
“Sabi ko sa kanila after namin matalo, kailangan ‘yung locals ang magstep up. Apat silang locals doon at dalawa lang ‘yung import kaya sila ‘yung dapat mag-boost sa team at makatulong.”
