ERICA Wilson dropped 33 points to stop Cignal’s woeful three-game skid, while sending Foton to its ninth straight defeat, 15-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20, on Thursday in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Arena in San Juan City.
Wilson unloaded 26 kills, four blocks and three service aces to finally bring back the winning ways of the HD Spikers for an improved 6-6 win-loss record at fifth place.
Ana Artemeva was also instrumental with 14 points, highlighted with the game-winning block on Foton’s import Milagros Collar.
Rachel Anne Daquis also stepped up with nine markers as Mylene Paat played under the weather playing restricted minutes only having four markers. Libero Jheck Dionela had 34 digs and 15 excellent receptions, setter Acy Masangkay dishing out 21 excellent sets on top of 22 digs.
"Naging emotional 'yung team, nagkaroon ng talks, nagkaroon ng iyakan. Palagay ko, 'yun 'yung nag-spark na kumilos sila,” said Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga. “Iba 'yung energy nila ngayon. Palagay ko, nakapag-isip sila. Hindi kasi kami magkaintindigan noong time na natatalo kami.”
Cignal plays its second to the last elimination game against PLDT (6-5) on Tuesday.
Milagros Collar and Courtney Felinski had 25 and 21 points, respectively, for Foton only to absorb its ninth loss in 10 matches.
The Tornadoes take on United Volleyball Club (5-5) also on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
