    Cignal gets back on track, deals Sta. Lucia ninth straight loss

    CIGNAL dominated hapless Sta. Lucia, 25-8, 25-16, 25-22, to get back on track in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.

    Mylene Paat scored 12 and Alohi Robins-Hardy added 10 points as the HD Spikers bagged their fourth win in nine outings.

    Opposite spiker Paat had nine attacks, while Robins-Hardy scored on four service aces while making eight excellent sets.

    “Good job doon sa mga players ko, ‘yun ‘yung gusto makita maliban kina Rachel [Daquis] and Jovelyn [Gonzaga],” said Cignal assistant coach Rico de Guzman. “Gusto ko mag-step up ‘yung mga second stringers ko. Masaya naman ako ‘yung mga ginamit ko [di ako binigo].”

    “’Yung mga ginamit ko, sabi ko lang sa kanila na ‘Magtiwala kayo sa sarili niyo, gagamitin ko kayo ngayon kaya mag-step up kayo na gawin niyo ang best niyo’. ‘Yun ‘yung gusto kong makita against Petron noong natalo kami,” he added.

    Janine Marciano and May Luna combined for 17 points for Cignal, which bounced back from a loss to Petron.

    With the match tied at 16, Robins-Hardy led a run to put the HD Spikers ahead, 21-18, breather before reaching match point, 24-19.

    The Lady Realtors looked to extend the match after they saved three match points, 22-24, but Paat took control to seal the win.

    Sta. Lucia got six points each from Roselle Baliton and Joy Dacoron, which was matched by MJ Philips, who was only fielded in the third set.

    The Lady Realtors slid to 1-9.
