CIGNAL salvaged third place in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference, defeating Smart-Army, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
Rachel Anne Daquis scored 18 points and registered 13 digs to lead the way for the dethroned champion HD Spikers.
Although Cignal fell short of its goal to retain the title, head coach Edgar Barroga said he was happy with the bronze medal finish.
“Actually masaya kami kasi actually ito lang ‘yung talagang ine-expect namin, makapasok lang kami sa top four since ’yung lineup namin is sabihin na nating hilaw pa,” said Barroga.
Mylene Paat also had 15 markers for the HD Spikers, while Mumay Vivas chipped in 13 and Shirley Salamagos had seven points, built on five of the team’s 11 blocks.
Joanne Bunag made 10 points for Smart-Army, while Dimdim Pacred contributed eight.
The Giga Hitters finished a strong fourth in the Invitational after going winless in the Grand Prix.
