CIGNAL disposed of also-ran Meralco, 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, to arrange a semifinal showdown with Petron in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan on Monday night.
American import Ariel Usher led the way anew with 29 points while Amanda Anderson added 18 as the HD Spikers ended the eliminations tied for second place with Petron at 7-3 (win-loss) just behind Philips Gold's 8-2 mark.
As the third seeds, the HD Spikers take on the Blaze Spikers in a knockout semifinal on Saturday while top seed Philips Gold take on Foton in the other Final Four pairing.
“I told my players that they just have to play without any pressure inside the court and I told them that whatever happens, nasa top four pa rin kami but it's sa game. Let’s play for pride,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar.
“All the teams are strong. Lahat ng teams magagaling but of course this is a game and hindi namin alam kung sino ang mananalo sa amin. Of course my team gustong masungkit ang championship,” said the veteran mentor.
La Salle stalwart Mika Reyes finished with 15 points for Meralco, while Liis Kullerkan and Christina Alessi had 13 and 11 markers, respectively.
The Power Spikers ended the double-round eliminations with a 1-9 win-loss card and will square off with RC Cola-Air Force (1-9) in a classification match on Saturday.
