MERALCO downed RC Cola-Air Force, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, in the battle for fifth place on Saturday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand prix at Imus Sports Complex.
American import Christina Alessi scored 13 points, while La Salle star Mika Reyes added 11 for the Power Spikers.
Estonian reinforcement Liis Kullerkan had 10 points, while La Salle setter Kim Fajardo had nine points and 26 of the team’s 29 excellent sets for Meralco.
Skipper Cha Cruz and Mary Joy Baron added six points apiece for Meralco.
Fajardo was happy with the Power Spikers’ campaign despite a lowly finish as she looks forward to the UAAP volleyball tournament, which starts in January.
“Sobrang laking tulong nito sa UAAP. Sa umpisa noong ’di pa namin nakikita ang kalaban ang goal is manalo muna tapos target talaga matuto kasi preparation ito sa UAAP,” said Fajardo.
“And siguro naman na-achieve namin ang goal namin kasi hindi mo na makukuha sa ibang liga ang experience na nakuha mo dito,” she added.
Puerto Rican import Lynda Morales and American Sarah McClinton scored 16 points each, while Maika Ortiz added 11 for RC Cola-Air Force, which wound up way off their third place finish last year.
Meralco and RC Cola both had 1-9 records in the eliminations.
