NATIONAL team members Ces Molina and Aiza Maizo led the way as Petron beat Generika-Ayala, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18, on Tuesday in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Molina, the Petron skipper, fired 20 points from 15 kills, three blocks and two service aces, while Maizo added 17 from 13 hits and four rejections, in the one hour and 46-minute match.
The Blaze Spikers, who beat Sta. Lucia last week, improved their win-loss record to 3-1, while Generika-Ayala slid to 2-2 in Group C.
Petron coach Shaq delos Santos was far from satisfied.
“Honestly speaking medyo hindi ’yun ang inexpect namin, medyo mabagal ang galawan namin. Good thing lang kaya naman ipanalo ang game,” said the veteran mentor.
“‘Yun lang second set, aminado ako, nagrelax kami pero good thing bumawi naman third and fourth sets,” he added.
The Blaze Spikers were the first to reach set point in the second frame but the Life Savers were able to snatch it from Petron.
“Kulang pa sa amin ‘yung gigil, ‘yung pag gustong pumuntos, kailangan all out ibigay mo ang best mo,” added De los Santos said.
Sisi Rondina scored seven points and Toni Basas added six markers for Petron.
The Blaze Spikers outscored the Life Savers in attacks, 51-37, and in blocks, 12-5.
Patty Orendain scored 14 points for Generika-Ayala, while Angeli Araneta and Fiola Ceballos chipped in 13 markers apiece.
