CES Molina said it was worth playing through injury, even as Petron settled for second place in the Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference.
An MRI last week showed Molina had a fractured shin, and was told by doctors to sit out a month.
The 23-year-old Molina begged off national team duties, skipping the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, but the Blaze Spikers skipper went on to play for her club.
Molina fought like a warrior and played with all her heart in the finals, averaging 11.5 points even as Petron went down in two matches to F2 Logistics.
“Worth it naman kasi at the end of the day naman parang isa lang ‘yung goal namin makipagbigay ng entertainment sa tao,” said Molina.
“Lalaban naman talaga kami at maglalaro kami kahit nalaman ko na may injury ako. Nasabi naman ng doctor na after ng league pwede ako magpahinga. So okay pa rin ako nung nag-all-out ako.”
“Siyempre as a team captain, hindi pwede na sabihin ko na hindi na ako maglalaro. This is a championship game mahirap na magpabaya and ‘yung injury ko naman nagagawan ko ng paraan,” she added.
Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos was impressed with his team captain’s determination.
“Sobrang fighter kasi yan eh. Alam naman namin. Sabi ko nga Ces, kung anong abutin, three games ba ‘to or ilan. Basta tiyagain na lang natin, konting tiyaga na lang,” Delos Santos said. “Lumaban naman talaga siya.”
Molina said she also felt bad pulling out of the national squad, which will see action in Asiad volleyball tournament for the first time in 36 years.
“Sa akin sobrang lungkot kasi ‘yung time na talagang nakasama ako sa line-up noong inannounce ‘yun sobrang happy ako kahit maraming nagbabash or whatever,” she said.
“Pero nung natanggal ako madami pa rin namang sumusuporta siguro it’s not the time kasi ako gusto ko rin maglaro after 36 years ngayon lang makakapag Asian Games tapos hindi naman ako nasa Pool lang, nasa line-up talaga ako kaya mahirap na tanggapin.”
“Pero ‘yun nga opportunity ‘yun para kay Mylene (Paat) kasi siya ‘yung pumalit sa akin,” added Molina as she gives her full support to Paat in joining the National team.
Molina vows to come back stronger in the All-Filipino Conference.
“Unahin ko muna ‘yung rest tapos after nun babalik ako sa conditioning and strengthening para makapagperform ulit ng all out,” she concluded.
