STA. Lucia arrested a five-match skid with a 13-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 victory over Foton in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Import Casey Schoenlein nailed back-to-back spikes to put Sta. Lucia at match-point, 24-21, before Foton’s import Selime Ilyasoglu committed an attack error as the Lady Realtors scored their second win in seven matches.
Schoenlein showed the way for Sta. Lucia with 13 points, while import Molly Lohman scored 12, highlighted by four blocks.
Skipper Pam Lastimosa had nine points to go with 12 digs and seven excellent receptions. Jho Maraguinot also had nine hits, while Rachel Austero scored eight and Amanda Villanueva added seven points.
Rubie De Leon made 31 excellent sets on top of four points as Sta. Lucia finished the match in two hours and six minutes.
“That’s been our issue ever since how do we finish?” Sta. Lucia head coach Babes Castillo said. “Now I think this is a good experience for them, they get to know how to finish the game, they get to know how to play in tight situations. Hopefully they will pick it up later on coming into the second round.”
The Lady Realtors climbed to sixth place with a 2-5 win-loss record at the end of the first round and will begin their second round campaign against Cignal HD Spikers (4-2) next Tuesday.
Import Courtney Felinski scored 28 points on 23 kills, four service aces and a block for Foton, which suffered its fifth straight loss for a 1-5 card.
Ilyasoglu chipped in 15 points, while Elaine Kasilag added nine points.
The Tornadoes try to end their first round on a winning note against Generika-Ayala Lifesavers (0-5) on Thursday.
