AFTER struggling in her first few games, Bernadeth Pons redeemed herself at the perfect time as she helped Petron in taking down nemesis F2 Logistics in their rivalry battle in the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
Pons, who had yet to show her true form at the start of the All-Filipino, even going scoreless from their previous win over Smart, finally proved her worth finishing with 16 points including 21 digs and five excellent receptions in the Blaze Spikers’ pivotal 22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20 victory over the Cargo Movers on Saturday at the Alonte Sports Center in Biñan City.
Admitting that she failed to contribute her usual numbers in Petron’s first three wins, the do-it-all open spiker said that she used those strings of bad games as motivation.
Pons did just that and helped the Blaze Spikers in preserving their immaculate 4-0 win-loss record and beating their long-time PSL rivals and tormentors in the previous Invitational Conference.
“Sobrang saya namin, ako kasi siyempre nung last na Invitational tinalo kami nila so parang eto yung time ulit na makabawi,” she said.
The former FEU star added that it’s also her way of giving back for the trust of her coach Shaq Delos Santos, his coaching staff and teammates.
A long journey still awaits Petron in its title-retention campaign as it still has three more games in the first round before heading into the Pool Play round-robin, which will serve as a qualifying round for the quarterfinals.
And as the conference goes by, Pons vowed to give her all now that this is the start of her life after college and playing as a full-time Blaze Spiker.
