CIGNAL advanced to the semifinals with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-10, 25-19 victory over lowly RC Cola-Air Force on Saturday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Spike on Tour at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.
Ariel Usher scored 22 points, with 20 kills, while fellow American import Amanda Anderson had 15 markers as Cignal scored its sixth win in eight matches for a share of lead with defending champion and early semifinalist Petron.
“’Yun ang sinigurado namin na makapasok kami sa semifinals. Doon sa semifinals lahat malakas and lahat ng coaches magagaling na we have to study,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar.
Before the Halloween break, Cignal suffered losses to Petron and Foton.
Acaylar said the break was a good chance for them to get back in shape physically and mentally.
“I told the Cignal management na kailangan i-relax ang mga players, kailangan magkaroon kami ng water spa, nag-swimming kami ng kaunti and after that back to normal na,” said Acaylar.
Puerto Rican import Lynda Morales scored 15 points, while Sara McClinton added 12 for Raiders, who absorbed their loss in seven matches. RC Cola can still make it to the semifinals but needs to win its last three matches.
