STA. Lucia defeated Cignal, 32-30, 25-22, 25-21, to move back to the middle of the pack in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) Grand Prix on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
Ukrainian import Bohdana Anisova led the way with 23 points while Fil-American MJ Phillips added 16 as the Lady Realtors improved to 2-2 and created a four-way tie with Cignal, Foton and F2 Logistics for the No. 3 spot.
Former Canada national team members Marisa Field and Kristen Moncks also delivered for Sta. Lucia. Field had eight markers while Moncks finished with 22 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
More than his familiarity with Cignal, Sta. Lucia coach George Pascua stressed that it was his team’s collective effort that was the key to victory.
“Desire ng team na ‘yung game plan namin ma-execute (ang nagpanalo sa amin),” said Pascua, who called the shots for Cignal last season.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila hindi naman kailangan iisa lang ang papatay ng bola sa atin, kailangan distribution ng bola para hindi tayo mabasa ng kalaban,” added the veteran mentor.
American import Stiix Horton led Cignal with 21 points and Bosnian reinforcement Sonja Milanovic added 16.
