F2 Logistics libero Dawn Macandili stood tall after bagging the top honor in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference.

The Cargo Movers defense specialist was named MVP after the Cargo Movers won the championship at the expense of Foton on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

But the 5-foot libero admitted that the award came as a surprise because it was the first time that the MVP was not a scoring player next to Venus Bernal (2013 Invitational Conference), Wanitchaya Luangtonglang (2013 Grand Prix), Rachel Anne Daquis (2014, 2015 All Filipino), Aliana Bergsma (2014 Grand Prix) and Lindsay Stalzer (2015 Grand Prix).

“Nagulat ako kasi hindi nga naman usually nagiging MVP ang libero pero nakakatuwa na ako ‘yung pinarangalan na MVP this PSL (conference),” said the Tanauan, Batangas native.

F2 coach Ramil de Jesus also wasn’t expecting the award to be given to Macandili, but he has always been a believer in what his pint-sized ward can do.

“Medyo (nagulat) kasi bihira ang nagiging MVP na libero hindi in-expect na siya magi-MVP,” he said. “Sa akin naman saludo naman ako kay Dawn kahit anong mangyari, hindi ko lang sinasabi sa kanila na ‘ang galing-galing mo na.’ Hindi nila naririnig sa akin ‘yun.”

“Pero in my side talaga happy ako para sa kanya [at] sa nangyayari sa kanya ngayon and then sa improvement ng nilalaro niya ngayon as a player as a libero,” he added.

Meanwhile, Macandili’s teammates also raked in other individual awards as Ara Galang was the first best outside spiker, Aby Marano was the first best middle blocker and Kim Fajardo was the best setter.

Petron’s Bernadeth Pons was the second best outside spiker, Foton stalwart Jaja Santiago was the second best middle blocker and Jovelyn Gonzaga of RC Cola Army was the best opposite spiker.
