ALL aboard as Marinerang Pilipina is set to join the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference this June.
The Lady Skippers are set to become the ninth club team to participate the PSL, according to former University of the Philippines star and team manager Jed Montero.
Former Foton coach Vilet Ponce-de Leon, who delivered the franchise’s first title in the 2015 Grand Prix, will make her grand return to the PSL as the Lady Skippers' coach.
“Coach Vilet is a champion coach here in the PSL. We believe that she will hit the ground running and assemble a very competitive team,” Montero said.
University of the East stars Judith Abil and Seth Rodriguez and San Beda team captain Cesca Racraquin headline the Lady Skippers, who are still in the process of recruiting more players.
Montero assured that they are out to prove they belong in the top league alongside Petron, F2 Logistics, Foton, Cignal, Sta. Lucia, Generika-Ayala, United VC and PLDT Home Fibr.
“Just like any new team, our goal is to be competitive right away,” said the former Lady Maroon, who played for RC Cola-Air Force in the early years of the PSL.
“Just like other teams, our goal is also to win a championship,” she added. “We will be very patient because we know that winning in a competitive league such as the PSL is not an overnight process.”
The PSL, for its part, warmly welcomed Marinerang Pilipina, which also has a team in the PBA D-League.
“It really feels good to know that the PSL continues to grow,” PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico said. “From having only six teams in 2013, we now have nine teams which are all committed to win and be competitive.
"This growth shows the level of confidence team owners are putting on us.“
