MAKE your Mama proud.
Alexa Micek said her return to beach volleyball not only rekindles an old flame but is also a nod to her mother, who used to play the sport.
The 23-year-old Filipino-American libero turned opposite spiker is happy to be back in the sands as she plays for Petron Sprint 4T with Fille Cainglet-Cayetano in the PLDT Home Ultera-Philippine Super Liga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup 2015 powered by Smart Live More.
"I'm really excited and happy, this is my first love and my mom's first love as well," Micek said with a glow in her eyes when Spin.ph caught up with her during the press launch on Thursday at Centerstage Family KTV and Restaurant.
This year's PSL seventh overall pick said she was introduced to beach volleyball at a young age.
"My mom is the reason why I played beach volleyball, I learned from her because she played the sport when she was younger," said Micek.
The charming volleybelle also hopes beach volleyball can soon be the next big thing in a country blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
"I hope so, I really hope so," she said. "The Philippines has gorgeous beaches all over the country and maybe in the future beach volleyball can also become as popular as indoor volleyball."
