IMUS, Cavite — The Philippine national women’s team bagged its second win in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference, defeating Cignal, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21, on Tuesday at Imus Sports Complex.
Team captain and natural middle blocker Aby Maraño did well as opposite spiker, leading the nationals with 17 points from 13 attacks, two blocks and two service aces, and six excellent receptions.
Although the national team handed Cignal its first loss, it won’t affect the HD Spikers’ 3-0 win-loss record in Pool B.
Only eight players saw action for the Philippine team this time after fielding nine in the match against Cocolife.
Joining Marano were Ces Molina, Mika Reyes, Majoy Baron, MJ Philips, Kim Fajardo and Dawn Macandili in the one hour and 20-minute match.
“Hosestly speaking happy kami na nananalo kami pero for us alam namin na malayo pa, marami pa kaming dapat gawin,” said national team coach Shaq delos Santos.
“But I’m very happy sa players kasi nagiging flexible sila sa kung anong dapat gawin. Especially ang team captain namin ginawa naming opposite (spiker) ngayon, always ready siya,” he added.
Mylene Paat scored 11 points for Cignal.
