COACH Roger Gorayeb is playing down the team’s chances while complimenting his players’ skills ahead of a match as PLDT tries to stretch its win streak to three when it takes on RC Cola-Air Force on Sunday in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Power Attackers and the Raiders will clash at 3 p.m.
Gorayeb is again underscoring the team’s lack of training time together and noting that his wards — 10 of 12 of whom are not full-time volleyball players — manage to come up with fine performances.
“Empleyado na kasi sa kani-kanyang kumpanya ang mga ’yan, hindi kami nakakapag ensayo gaya ng ibang team na pag sinabi mong ganitong oras ang practice lahat andyan sila,” said Gorayeb.
“Pero no excuses, pupukpok talaga kami,” he added.
Sue Roces, Angela Benting, Louann Latigay and Sasa Devanadera are again expected to deliver the goods for the Power Attackers but their team defense remains their main weapon.
“Depensa ang nagdadala sa amin sa ligang ito,” said Gorayeb.
PLDT Home TVolution dropped its opening match but has come up with back-to-back wins for a 2-1 card.
RC Cola, on the other hand, won its opening-day assignment, downing Cignal in three sets with Joy Cases and Maika Ortiz leading the way.
Meanwhile, Generika-Army tries to bounce back from defeat in its opening game when it takes on winless Cagayan Valley at 5 p.m.
Army lost its first game and bowed to PLDT in five sets, 26-28, 25-16, 27-29, 25-13, 12-15, a week ago, while Cagayan Valley is winless in three outings.
In men's play PLDT Home TVolution-Air Force will clash with Instituto Estetico Manila at 7 p.m.
PLDT and IEM both hold a 1-0 win-loss record, behind Cignal (2-0).
