CAGAYAN Valley swept PLDT MyDSL, 27-25, 25-20, 25-15, on Sunday to complete the semifinal cast in the Philippine Super Liga at the Philsports Arena.
What was expected to be a tough battle ended up as a walk in the park for the Lady Rising Suns, who recovered from a two-game losing skid to regain top form in time for the sudden-death match.
"Alam ko naman na lalaban sila kasi nga pang-semis na laban ito pero siguro mas nasunod lang 'yung game plan namin," said Cagayan Valley coach Nes Pamilar.
Joy Cases finished with 18 points while Sandra delos Santos and Bhebs Pineda contributed 17 and 14 markers, respectively, for the Lady Rising Suns.
"Noong last two games kasi namin 'di na kami naglalaro as a team, kaya ngayon sinabi ko sa kanila (players) na ibalik natin 'yung dating ginagawa nating mabuti noong nanalo tayo ng tatlong sunod," said Pamilar.
Cagayan Valley went for a 4-0 spurt to open a comfortable 20-11 lead in the third set. Delos Santos fired three-back-to-back points to set up match point before Liza de Ramos sealed it with a winner.
Cagayan Valley dominated both in the scoring and non-scoring departments. The Lady Rising Suns had more spikes (49-35) and registered more block points (5-3) and service aces (5-3).
No Speed Booster finished in double digits, with team captain Lou Ann Latigay topscoring for the team with nine and Pau Soriano, Angela Benting and Charmaine Moralde contributing seven each.
