DEFENDING champion De La Salle aims to bolster its claim for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four of the 75th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament when it collides with lowly University of the Philippines Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Currently on a roll by winning 10 straight games, the league-leading Lady Spikers (10-1) are not about to get complacent going to their 4 p.m. encounter with the Lady Maroons.
“Paghahandaan pa din namin sila,” said Ara Galang, one of the top players expected to deliver for the Taft-based school along with Abigail Marano and Mika Reyes.
De La Salle rival Ateneo, also solidifies its bid for a twice-to-beat incentive in the semis when it takes on winless University of the East in the first game at 2 p.m.
The Lady Eagles are looking to book their ninth win in 12 outings as they hope to keep the no. 2 spot in the standings.
Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb is confident his team will be able to hold on at second place especially after Dzi Gervacio fired a season-high eight service aces in the Lady Eagles’ 25-14, 25-8, 25-16 win over UP last Saturday.
“Dikit-dikit ang standings, pero kampante ako sa second place,” said Gorayeb.
Both the Lady Maroons (1-10) and Lady Warriors (0-11) are at the bottom end of the standings and will try to play the spoiler’s role in the day’s scheduled double header.
