STA. Elena defeated lowly Café Lupe, 17-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22, on Sunday to force a playoff for the last semifinal spot in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Berlin Paglinawan and Isaah Arda had 15 points apiece for the Wrecking Balls.
Sta. Elena and Army, both with 4-3 win-loss cards, face off for the last semifinal spot on Wednesday.
John Millete scored 22 for Café Lupe, which ended the tournament winless.
Meanwhile, Cignal got a big boost ahead of the semifinals with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 win over Instituto Estetico Manila.
Peter Torres led the way for the HD Spikers with 14 points, Ysay Marasigan added 12 markers and Lorenzo Capate scored 10.
Cignal matched Megabuilders’ 6-1 mark but the latter will take the No. 1 spot in the semifinals due to the win over the other rule.
Kurl Rosete scored 14 points for IEM, which dropped to 2-5.
