SEMIFINALS-bound College of Saint Benilde made short work of struggling San Sebastian, 25-17, 25-16, 25-14, for its seventh consecutive win in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Rachel Austero led the charge for the Lady Blazers, finishing eith 13 points off 10 attacks, two blocks and an ace while Klarissa Abriam delivered 11 hits as St. Benilde forced a share of second place with idle San Beda on 7-1 win-loss records behind unbeaten leader and two-time champion Arellano (8-0).
The Lady Blazers can hold on to the second seding if they win their last elimination game against Mapua (1-7) on Monday.
In case the Lady Chiefs complete the sweep at the expense of the Lady Red Spikers on Tuesday, the Lady Blazers will bag second place waiting for the winner of a playoff between the third and fourth placers in the first phase of the stepladder semifinals.
Nobody scored in double figures for San Sebastian with Mary Rhose Dapol and Joyce Sta. Rita scoring eight points each as they fell on the brink of elimination after dropping to 4-4 win-loss record in a tie with idle Jose Rizal University.
The Lady Stags need to win against current fourth placer University of Perpetual Help (4-3) on Monday, and hope that the Lady Bombers beat the Lady Altas on Thursday, to force a playoff for the last semis ticket.
Meanwhile, also-ran Lyceum (3-5) sent Emilio Aguinaldo College to a forgettable 0-9 season with a 25-17, 25-16, 27-25 victory.
