COLLEGE of St. Benilde stayed on track in its bid for back-to-back NCAA women’s volleyball titles, advancing to the second phase of the stepladder semifinals with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-15 victory over San Beda College on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Blazers came up with 11 blocks to dispose of the Lionesses and set up a showdown with twice-to-beat second seed Arellano University.
Ranya Musa scored 15 points, while team captain Jeanette Panaga and Rachel Anne Austero added 11 markers apiece for St. Benilde.
St. Benilde takes on Arellano on Friday. San Sebastian earned an outright finals berth with a sweep of the eliminations.
The Lady Blazers are again looking to reach the finals from the No. 4 spot. St. Benilde last season defeated Perpetual Help before battling Arellano, then San Sebastian.
But CSB coach Macky Carino reminded the Lady Blazers it is much different this time.
“Sabi ko nga kung gusto talaga namin magchampion dapat walang relax,” he said. “So kailangan ang level na ilalaro namin sa last two teams namin dapat sobrang taas.”
“Ang aggressiveness nandon, yung will to win nandoon, ang passion nandoon para at least kapag pinagsama-sama ‘yan pinakamagandang game ‘yan,” he added.
Francesca Racraquin scored 11 points for San Beda.
