    St. Benilde spikers down Perpetual Help to stay unbeaten in NCAA women's volleyball

    COLLEGE of St. Benilde grabbed solo first spot in the 89th NCAA women's volleyball tournament as it toppled University of Perpetual Help, 25-21, 29-27, 22-25, 25-19, on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.

    Jannine Navarro had 22 points, while Therese Veronas added 17 for the Lady Blazers, who kept their record clean after three games.

    Honey Tubino came up with 28 markers for the back-to-back champion Lady Altas, who dropped to third place with a 2-1 win-loss mark.

    Arellano University demolished Jose Rizal University, 25-5, 25-18, 25-16.

    Menchie Tubiera and Cristine Rosario came up with 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the Lady Chiefs completed the win in only 56 minutes and tied Perpetual Help at 2-1.

    Maria Shola Alvarez and Ma. Margarita Tabunda each had six points for JRU (0-3).

    In the men's division, Arellano dumped JRU, 25-17, 25-14, 25-21, for its first win in three matches.

    Lawrence del Espiritu and Raymond Caidic produced 13 points each while Sanny Sarino added 10 for Arellano.

    Joseph Mariano had 10 markers for the Heavy Bombers, who are still winless in three outings.

    Perpetual Help downed St. Benilde, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20, for its third win in as many outings.

    Edmar Sanchez finished with 18 points, while Rex Castro contributed 13 for the Altas.

    John Vic de Guzman had 18 points for St. Benilde, while Marjun Alingasa chipped in with 13 for CSB, which holds a 2-1 record.
