Cignal survives scare, outlasts winless Champion Supra in five-set thriller

DEFENDING champion Cignal escaped Champion Supra, 25-18, 37-35, 23-25, 17-25, 15-12, in the 2nd Spikers' Turf Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.

Lorenzo Capate Jr. finished with 27 points, built on 25 kills, to lead four other HD Spikers in double figures.

National University alum Peter Torres added 16 points, Herschel Ramos chipped in 14, and former Ateneo standout Ysay Marasigan and Edmar Bonono contributed 11 markers apiece for the HD Spikers, who improved to 2-1 tied with Instituto Estetico Manila at second spot behind league-leading Philippine Air Force (2-0).

Playmaker Vince Mangulabnan out of NU also registered 49 excellent sets for Cignal.

Joven Camaganakan fired 28 points for Champion Supra, while Arjay Onia had 22 markers and Berlin Paglinawan had 18. Champion Supra remained winless in two matches.
