CIGNAL HD completed a sweep of the eliminations of the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, downing Sta. Elena, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21, on Monday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Raymark Woo scored 14 points, while Lorenzo Capate added nine as the HD Spikers scored their sixth win in as many matches.
“Malaking achievement siya for us, kasi ito yung first time na hawak ko yung Cignal, na sweep namin yung eliminations,” said Cignal head coach Michael Carino.
Cignal will again face Sta. Elena in the semifinals starting on Wednesday, but Carino warned the players it could be much different in the best-of-three series.
“Yung standings parang balewala eh. Parang walang benefit yung rank one because best of three series pa din eh. Kailangan, I have to win two games bago ako pumasok ng finals,” he added.
Berlin Paglinawan had 11 points for the Wrecking Balls, while Arjay Onia added eight points.
Carino expects Sta. Elena to do much better in the series, but noted he is very much ready for any adjustments the Wrecking Balls would make.
“Konti yung distance ng pag-aaralan namin, kahit ganoon ang nangyari, alam namin na kalaban namin sila ng last game at nakita namin kung paano sila maglaro. Siguro mag-aadjust yung team na iyon pero kami ready kami kung ano ang gagawin nila,” Carino added.
“Ako, most specially ako, ready kasi planado ko na kung ano yung gagawin ko on Wednesday,” Carino said. Gabriel Pe
