CIGNAL edged Sta. Elena, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 26-24, on Wednesday in the opener of their best-of-three semifinals in the Spikers Turf Open Conference at San Juan Arena.
Raymark Woo had 22 points, Hershel Ramos scored 14 and Alexis Faytaren added 12 points for the HD Spikers.
Cignal stayed unbeaten in six matches, but coach Michael Carino noted it was a much tougher match against Sta. Elena, a team they whipped in three sets just two days ago in their elimination-round match.
“Eto talaga ineexpect ko na lalaban ‘yung kabila because gusto din nila pumasok,” he said
“’Yung standing namin na 5-0 burado lahat iyon, ’yung ano yung nangyari sa Game One, ’yun ang magiging turning point sa series na ito,” he added.
Arjay Onia led the Wrecking Balls with 15 points and Berlin Paglinawan contributed 14.
The HD Spikers hope to even the series on Saturday.
“Ayaw ko muna magsalita pero gagawin namin yung best para manalo,” Carino said, waving off suggestions they should be able to score an easy sweep. Gabriel Pe
