PLDT Home Ultera and Philippine Army moved into a share of the early lead with Cagayan Valley after downing separate teams on Tuesday in the Spikers' Turf volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Ultra Fast Hitters drubbed Fourbees-Cavite, 25-19, 25-17, 25-10, before the Troopers defeated Instituto Estetico Manila, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19.
Kheeno Franco scored 13 points and JP Torres, a former University of Santo Tomas standout and one-time UAAP MVP, added 12 for the Ultra Fast Hitters.
PLDT Home Ultera needed only 67 minutes to win the match as it dominated Cavite Fourbees at the net with 11 block points against five by the Patriots.
Neil Ytorzaita scored 10 for Cavite Fourbees.
Meanwhile, Army skipper John Ian Depamaylo scored 14 points to lead the Troopers, while Benjaylo Labide and Partick John Roxas chipped in with 12 markers each.
The Troopers earned 33 points from IEM's errors.
Jason Canlas scored 14 for the Phoenix Volley Masters, while Kirk Beliran added 12, Jeffrey Jimenez chipped in 11 and Salvador Timbal contributed 10.
IEM and Cavite Fourbees share the bottom of the standings with Champion Infinity.
