STREAKING Smart goes for a third straight win but faces a dangerous Meralco side in a battle between unbeaten teams in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.
After winning its first two matches to take the solo lead, Smart prepares to be tested in the 4 p.m. encounter against the Power Spikers.
Coach Roger Gorayeb will again lean on his eight-woman team which has continued to hold the fort in the absence of some of the team’s top players including ace spiker Alyssa Valdez.
But Meralco behind Maureen Penetrante-Ouano, Maica Morada, Ivy Remulla, and Stephanie Mercado, is expected to take advantage of Smart’s undermanned roster.
“Individually, they also have the advantage over us, but we are doing our best to prepare for tomorrow's game and to give them a good game,” said Meralco coach Oliver Almadro, whose Power Spikers beat Philippine National Police in its opening game.
“Sabi ko lang sa mga players to fight no matter what and to be inspired sa paglalaro nila.”
“We really hope na manalo kami tomorrow,” he added.
Meanwhile powerhouse Philippine Air Force will try to bounce back from a four-set loss against Cagayan Valley as it takes on powerhouse Philippine Army which makes its debut at 2p.m.
Judy Ann Caballejo will again lead Air Force’s bid to clinch a breakthrough win along with Maika Ortiz and Iari Yongco.
Michelle Carolino, Tina Salak, Joanne Bunag, Mary Jean Balse and Nene Bautista take charge for the Lady Troopers.
