SISI Rondina and Dzi Gervacio advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Manila Open, defeating Canadian duo Megan Nagy and Caleigh Cruickshank, 21-17, 21-17, on Saturday at Sands SM By The Bay.
The Filipinas bounced back after a 20-22, 21-23 loss to Spain's Paula Soria and Maria Belen Carro late Friday.
Rondina and Gervacio finished the pool play with a 1-1 win-loss record and will face Japanese tandem Shinako Tanaka and Sakurako Fuji in the quarterfinals.
“From the beginning, ganun talaga ‘yung mindset namin, syempre ayaw din namin mapahiya ‘yung bandera natin, syempre bigay-todo kami,” said Rondina.
“Hindi man siya kailangan, pero sa sarili namin kinakailangan para syempre worth it naman ‘yung pagpunta nila at paggising nila nang maaga,” she added. “Syempre sa sarili din namin magiging worth it din yung mga pagod namin.”
Meanwhile, Beach Volleyball Republic champions Lot Catubag and Karen Quilario, policewomen based in Davao, bowed to Thailand junior team members Singchuea Thatsarida and Chanthawichai Pawarun, 36-34, 23-25, 15-17.
