SHOLA Alvarez led the way anew for Jose Rizal University in beating Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16, in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
The JRU skipper scored 24 points, four points shy from matching her previous output in a win over San Sebastian, as the Lady Bombers bagged their second straight victory in three outings.
JRU coach Mia Tioseco believed that their five-set victory over San Sebastian, 27-25, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25, 15-12, on Monday gave them the composure and confidence to win the match.
“I think talagang malaking factor siya, at least ‘yung mga girls nga (naniniwala) na kaya na nilang mag-compete,” said Tioseco. “I guess mas aggressive na sila. Hopefully, step by step (we get to our goal).”
The Lady Bombers built their offense on Alvarez's 22 kills as the entire team dropped 38 attacks, almost twice as the Lady Generals’ production (19) in a match that took an hour and 12 minutes to finish.
“I guess mas marunong ng mag-compose sa sarili nila ang mga players unlike before na nara-rattle,” said Tioseco.
“Although nara-rattle pa rin ngayon mas nakaka-recover na sila. I guess ‘yun lang ang key para sa amin,” she added.
Jaylene Lumbo finished with seven points for EAC, which slid to 0-3.
