UNIVERSITY of the East bagged its first win of the season at the expense of Adamson University, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
The Lady Warriors, who also defeated the Lady Falcons in their meeting last season, made it to the win column after six straight losses.
AdU remained winless in 14 matches dating to last year’s second round of eliminations.
Fourth year opposite spiker Shaya Adorador fired 23 points, all on 23 kills, and made 21 digs.
“Sobrang importante ng win na ito and dadalhin namin ito sa second round,” said Adorador.
“Wala nangg iiyak kasi kayang-kaya naman basta isapuso ang mga ginagawa namin at makinig kami sa kanya,” she added.
Mary Anne Mendrez scored nine and Angelica Dacaymat added eight markers for the Lady Warriors, who needed two hours to finish the match.
Libero Kathleen Arado registered 45 digs and 26 excellent receptions and Roselle Baliton made 55 excellent sets.
“‘Yun ang mahalaga maramdaman nila na kaya nila magtapos ng set,” said UE coach Francis Vicente.
Jema Galanza scored 18 points for Adamson.
