SHAQ delos Santos is back at the helm of the Philippine women’s national volleyball team, albeit under different circumstances.
PNVF president Tony Boy Liao confirmed to SPIN.ph on Tuesday that delos Santos has been appointed as Alas Pilipinas Women’s interim head coach for the 2026 AVC Women’s Cup in Candon City from June 6 to 14.
The development comes after Alas Women head coach Tai Bundit was ruled out for an estimated two to three months following an accident in Bangkok that required surgery on his ankle.

With Alas Women already navigating a significant roster overhaul and multiple player withdrawals, the federation now turns to a familiar face to steady the ship.
Delos Santos is no stranger to the national team setup, as he previously handled the Philippine women’s team as head coach from 2018 to 2021.
During that stretch, the former Cignal mentor guided the country in several major international tournaments, including the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
His appointment also comes at a time when Alas Women continue to rebuild its player pool following the exits and unavailability of several key members from previous national team setups.
The team recently opened training with an initial group of 10 players on Monday and is expected to continue expanding its pool in the coming days as more prospects join camp.
