Bagunas leads six other Alas Men among top players in FIVB Worlds prelims

BRYAN Bagunas led seven Alas Pilipinas Men among statistical leaders at the end of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship group stage.

The Philippine captain ranked third in scoring and attacking with 70 points on 61 attacks, six blocks, and three aces. He had a 57.01 percent success rate on attacks, averaging 20.33 per match.

In both categories, Bagunas trailed Belgian winger Ferre Reggers (73) and Bulgarian crowd darling Aleks Nikolov (71).

Leo Ordiales was a spot shy from the top 10 in the attacking department with 40 points and a 55.56 percent success rate. He also shared ninth-place with Bagunas in serving by hitting three aces.

Even as an outside hitter, Marck Espejo landed fourth overall in receptions ahead of converted libero Josh Ybanez in joint-fifth with Iran’s Morteza Sharifi.

Espejo recorded 24 excellent receptions on 30.77 percent efficiency, while Ybanez logged 23 excellent receptions on 31.51 percent efficiency.

The Filipino libero also finished seventh in digs (21), along with Japan star spiker Ran Takahashi and Czechia libero Milan Monik.

Owa Retamar went as high as fourth in setting with 111 excellent sets in the group stage. He normed 37 excellent sets per game with a success rate of 42.69 percent.

Bagunas and Espejo were tied for seventh in blocking with six each, with Retamar and middle blocker Kim Malabunga at joint ninth and Lloyd Josafat at 10th.
