THE Xavier-Regasco Volleyball Cup is set to hold a bigger second edition from June 1-6 at the Florida Uytengsu and George K. Young Gymnasium and Xavier School High School Gym.
The tournament has jumped from 72 participating schools and club teams to 88 with over 1,500 student athletes from Metro Manila, and provinces and cities such as Cebu, Naga, Bataan, and Quezon set to participate.
Preseason tournament
The Xavier-Regasco Volleyball Cup has grown from an effort to create opportunities for the Xavier School boys volleyball team into a full-scale preseason tournament.
The event also serves as a fund-raiser for the Xavier School volleyball team's programs to develop homegrown athletes, bring the community closer through volleyball, and give back to the school’s Grant-in-Aid beneficiaries.
Individual awards including a Finals MVP trophy will be handed out in the 18-under, 16-under, and 14-under divisions for both boys and girls.
“The tournament reflects the growing demand for accessible, high-level competitions for young athletes, particularly in the boys’ volleyball where opportunities at the grassroots level remain limited,” said Albert Hao, Xavier volleyball program head.
Hao also thanked Regasco for once again being involved in the endeavor as its naming rights partner.
“With the expansion of its 14U boys division from two teams last year to six this year, alongside participation in both Metro Manila and provincial teams, the Xavier-Regasco Volleyball Cup highlights how grassroots sports continue to grow beyond traditional hubs - creating more avenues for development, exposure, and competition,” said Hao.
Admission is free for all of the games of the tournament.
