DINDIN Santiago and Myla Pablo rescued an error-prone National University to lead it past Arellano, 25-21 25-19 23-25 25-20, on Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Santiago had 18 of her 22 points on attacks including the match-winning hit while Pablo had five of her 19 points on aces for the Lady Bulldogs, who won despite giving up 35 points on errors to the Lady Chiefs.
“Kailangang ma-minimize talaga namin ‘yung mga unforced errors and service errors kasi ‘yun pa rin ang nakikita naming problema,” said NU coach Edjet Mabbayad.
The Bulldogs also won despite playing without Cai Nepomuceno, who is still on vacation.
“Hindi naman ganoon kalaki ang adjustment dahil kami pa rin naman ‘yun,” said Mabbayad, referring to their play without a complete line-up.
Aiko Urdas had 13 points while Jaja Santiago, one of NU’s guest players who is taking residency before she sees action in the UAAP, was a revelation on defense with four of her 12 points coming on blocks.
But NU gave Arellano a fighting chance as errors in the third led to a set victory by the Lady Chiefs.
“Kapag hindi kami nakaka-receive, two or three points ang naipamimigay. Matagal kami maka-recover,” Mabbayad noted.
Arellano guest players Mary Jane Balse, a former MVP of the league, and Nerissa Bautista had 15 and 13 points apiece for the Lady Chiefs. Elaine Sagun added 10.
