GRETCHEL Soltones led the way as San Sebastian College scored a 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20 victory over Arellano University to take solo third place in the 88th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament on Monday at the Arena in San Juan.
Soltones came away with 26 markers, from 24 attacks and two block points, as the Lady Stags improved their win-loss record to 6-2 in third spot with one match remaining in the elimination round. Emilio Aguinaldo College leads with a 7-1 record followed by Perpetual with a 6-1 mark.
The Recto-based spikers also came out on top in the blocking and serving departments. San Sebastian had seven blocks against the four of Arellano, and produced nine service aces versus four by the Lady Chiefs.
Elaine Sagun and Shirly Salamagos each had 13 points for Arellano, which dropped to fourth spot with a 5-2 record.
In the second game, Letran defeated Mapua 25-14, 25-11, 23-25, 25-16.
Sarah Jane Espelita registered 18 points, Mikaela Lopez had 14, while Melissa Cu and Jamaika Rikka Villas added 13 and 11, respectively, for the Lady Knights.
Letran now has 2-5 record in seventh spot, while Mapua finished the tournament winless (0-9).
Kristine Bakare produced 10 markers, including four block points for Mapua.
