SANDUGO San Sebastian survived Cagayan Valley’s late fightback 25-23, 25-22, 15-25, 21-25, 15-10 in the 9th Season of the Shakey’s V League Open Conference on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Two sets down, the Rising Suns took charge early in the third and posted an eight-point lead, 11-3, after their 11-2 run. Cagayan continued its domination until the fourth set to force a decider.

But the Lady Stags recovered just in time and launched an 8-4 blast to seal their second win in as many outings.

“We’re a new team,” said Sandugo coach Roger Gorayeb. “They’re still getting to know each other as we go along. We just started our practice last Thursday.”

Jang Bualee came away with 22 points while Nene Baustisa, Su Roces and Kaensing Utaiwan chipped in 16, 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Sandugo.

“Individually they’re good players but the problem is the cohesion of the team, it’s still lacking. Unlike the other team, they’re a whole team,” said Gorayeb. “That’s why I had to talk to each of them.”

Sutadta Chuewulim led Cagayan with 18 points, while Honey Royse Tubino added 17. The Rising Suns now have a 1-1 win-loss record.
