GRETCHEL Soltones scored a match-best 32 points, all on spikes, as San Sebastian overcame Jose Rizal University, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, on Monday to gain a share of the lead in the 90th NCAA women’s volleyball competition at The Arena in San Juan City.
The SSC belles scored their fourth win in as many matches, joining Arellano University at the top of the standings.
Nikka Dalisay scored 15 and Jolina Labiano added 11 for SSC.
The Lady Bombers absorbed their third defeat against two wins.
In the other women's match, Mapua turned back Letran, 25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 25-15, to nail its first triumph after dropping two in a row.
Jela Pena scored 18 points, Audrey Paran had 17 and Dianne Latayan added 11, respectively, to pace the Lady Cardinals, who are hoping to improve on a ninth place performance last year.
In men's play, Jose Rizal downed San Sebastian, 20-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-7, for its first win in five starts.
