SAN Sebastain College moved a step closer to an outright finals berth in the NCAA Season 92 women's volleyball tournament, dominating Lyceum University of the Philippines, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, on Monday at The Arena in San Juan.
Grethcel Soltones and Joyce Sta. Rita had 13 points apiece, while Katherine Villegas chipped in nine points as San Sebastian made it eight wins in as many matches.
A win over defending champion College of St. Benilde on Wednesday will give San Sebastian a finals berth with a thrice-to-beat advantage.
Coach Roger Gorayeb hopes San Sebastian would be able to go all the way to the top this time and redeem themselves from the failure last year, when they earned a finals berth early only to bow to the Lady Blazers in the title series.
"Very critical 'yung ka-diagonal ni Grethcel kasi kapag hindi gumana 'yun malaking problema katulad last year," said the vetetan mentor.
"Eh ngayong laro na 'to naging critical na naman buti gumana ang gitna kaya nakatulong nang nakatukong kay Grethcel," he added. "Sabihin natin na 'yung 80 percent ni Gretcel naging 65 percent lang kasi nagtutulungan sila."
Alyssa Eroa took care of the floor defense with 20 digs and 18 excellent receptions for San Sebastian.
Christine Miralles scored seven points for Lyceum, while Czarina Orros and skipper Cherilyn Sindayen had six markers apiece.
The Lady Pirates bowed out of the tournament with a 5-4 win-loss record.
