SAN Sebastian College-Recoletos downed Mapua Institute of Technology in three easy sets on Tuesday to gain a share of first place in the 98th NCAA women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Gretchel Soltones and Czarina Berbano both had 10, while all other SSC players that were fielded contributed at least one point for a 25-15, 25-18, 25-11 win.
The Recto-based spikers share the top of the standings with College of St. Benilde at 3-0.
Precious Hazel Sedenio and Mary Anne Santos each had four markers for Mapua, which remained winless in three games.
Emilio Aguinaldo College whipped Letran, 25-13, 25-15, 25-17.
Charlette Lorenzo finished with 11 points for EAC, while Arian Angustia, Charmille Belleza, Maricar Aguares and Dona Mae Factor combined for 29 markers.
EAC outplayed Letran as it scored on six blocks while the Intramuros-based spikers only had three.
The Lady Generals also took advantage of Letran's poor reception, registering 16 service aces. Angelica Macabalitao produced 11 points for Letran.
EAC improved to 2-1, while Letran dropped to 0-3.
In the men's division Mapua bagged its first win at the expense of San Sebastian, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.
Philip Michael Bagalay poured in 29 points from 24 spikes, two blocks and three service aces, while Paul John Cuzon added 13 for MIT.
Mapua and SSC now hold 1-2 win-loss cards, tied for fourth with Arellano and Letran.
Richard Tolentino finished with 29 points for San Sebastian.
EAC downed Letran, 25-19, 25-21, 25-24, for a share of the lead with Perpetual Help at 3-0.
Howard Mojica scored 19 and Kerth Melliza added 12 for the Generals. Rudy Gatdula came up with 11 points for Letran, which is winless in three outings.
