SAN Sebastian defeated Jose Rizal University, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, on Wednesday for its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Joyce Sta. Rita led the way for SSC with 16 points, Nikka Dalisay scored 13 and Daurene Santos added 11 markers.
SSC improved to 1-1 win-loss record as it recovered from a straight-set loss to Far Eastern University on Sunday, although coach Roger Gorayeb was far from satisfied.
“‘Di ko malaman, ’yung way of thinking nila ’di nila mabago, ’di na sila rookie,” said Gorayeb. “Sabi ko nga sa kanila para kayong veteran rookie, beterano na kayo sa laro para kayong mga rookie gumalaw.”
SSC faces back-to-back defending champion National University on Monday.
"Sana itong liga na ’to makatulong sa kanila, over the years naman lagi kaming kasali dyan," said Gorayeb.
Team captain Shola Alvarez scored 13 for JRU, while Dolly Grace Verzosa added 11.
The Lady Bombers absorbed their second loss in as many games.
