SAN Beda University survived University of Perpetual Help, 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 26-24, 15-12, to make a good start in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Nieza Viray led the way for SBU with 24 points, while team captain Cesca Racraquin chipped in 14 markers.
“Malaking bagay sa amin kasi unang-una ‘yung character ng team nakita kaagad, pinakita ‘yung pagiging San Beda talaga nila,” said SBU coach Nemesio Gavino.
The Lady Red Spikers erased a six-point deficit in the fourth set, 10-16, to extend the match.
In the fifth set, SBU was already ahead, 10-6, before UPH countered with a 6-4 run, however, the four points of the Lady Red Spikers were from errors of the Lady Altas.
Racraquin sealed the win for last year's runner up with a service ace.
Cindy Imbo made 25 points and 31 digs for UPH, while Bianca Tripoli added 15 and Shyra Umandal contributed 10.
