SAN Beda snapped the four-game winning streak of defending champion University of Perpetual Help in a battle between fancied teams in the 89th NCAA women's beach volleyball tournament on a windy Friday afternoon at the White Beach, Puerto Galera.
The duo of Mona Diolazo and Debbie Dultra upset the pair of Vhima Condada and Jamela Suyat, 21-16, 8-21, 17-15, to stay alive in their quest for a Final Four berth.
The Red Lionesses now hold a 4-2 record.
“Masaya kasi kami pa lang ang nakakatalo sa kanila (Perpetual Help),” said Diolazo of the stunning win. “Nakatataas ng morale kasi sila ang defending champion."
The Lady Altas suffered their first loss in the tournament for a 4-1 slate in a tie for second place with Arellano University, which bounced back after beating Jose Rizal University, 21-11, 21-9.
Later in the day, San Beda tries to score a perfect follow up to its win over Perpetual Help as it faces league leader San Sebastian.
The Lady Stags, last year's runner-up, remains as the only unbeaten team with a 5-0 card after an easy win over Mapua, 21-9, 21-10.
