Samantha Torre and Ana Gopico fired six kills each and wound up with a combined 24-point production for CSA, which recovered from early woes to frustrate Angelicum College, 19-25, 26-24, 25-14, in the opener of the 10-team, two-group league.
Pasay City West High School held off St. James Academy-Malabon 25-15, 25-21, in Pool B.
MGC New Life Christian Academy, meanwhile, kicked off its campaign in Pool A with a scrambling 25-18, 25-21 victory over Academy of God’s Children with Kimmie Lao, Teri Cua and Josette Lee pooling 21 hits, including six attacks.
Miriam College also bounced back from an opening-day loss to defending champion Hope Christian High School with a 25-14, 25-20 win over Gen. Pio del Pilar National HS in Pool A action of the event sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation and sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
Isabella Romero, Ana Gomez, Frances Saclot and Elaine Ebreo combined for 15 kills for Miriam, dominating the opening set before thwarting Pio del Pilar’s fightback in the tournament also backed by Toby’s Sports, Mikasa as official ball, Tunes Hotel as official residence of the Tournament of Champions, Asics and Volley Prep.
