Coach Roger Gorayeb waves off talk about Thailand purposely dropping match against China

    May 6, 2015

ROGER Gorayeb doesn’t believe Thailand purposely lost its match to China to avoid the Philippines in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship.

“Walang magpapatalo dito,” Gorayeb said.

There was online talk about the Thais ‘tanking’ the match after bowing to China is straight sets on Tuesday, but Gorayeb dismissed the suspicions.

“Hindi strategy ’yan dahil kailangan nilang manalo. Kahit iwasan nila tayo, papasok at papasok sila,” said Gorayeb.

The multi-titled coach, however, said it is flattering to hear such news.

“Sa akin, alam mo kung ano ’yan? Respeto.

Gorayeb believes the Thais were simply being friendly when they said facing the home team would be tough.

“Huwag kayong magpapaniwala sa kanila,” Gorayeb said. “’Yung Team A ng Thailand, anim doon naglalaro sa Europe. Paano sila iiwas sa amin?

“Siguro iniiwasan nila kami kasi kaibigan namin sila. Very close tayo sa mga Thailand. Nandyan si Tai o wala si Tai, I’m very close to the head coaches and ’yung mga tao doon. We call each other brothers.
