COACH Roger Gorayeb is disappointed that one of his players at San Sebastian was hit by a BaliPure teammate during a live match in the Premier Volleyball League.
SSC libero Jewelle Bermillo was hit on the nape by BaliPure import Danijela Dzakovic after an error on a play in the match against Creamline.
Gorayeb was calling the shots for PLDT against Foton in the Superliga All Filipino Conference when the incident happened but the veteran coach was informed about it by a team official.
“Siyempre yung act itself hindi maganda. Oras ng laro siyempre sa tagal natin sa volleyball wala namang nangyayari pang ganyang yung mga player pa mismo,” Gorayeb said.
“Nag-sorry naman daw yung import kaso hindi ko alam na sa pagbatok na nalaglag yug contact lens so medyo malakas talaga. Siyempre napahiya yung bata sa harap ng maraming tao. Iiyak talaga yun,” he added.
The multi-titled coach said he has not reviewed video of the incident, but noted that while the import may have been in the right position and the error was on the part of the local player, it doesn’t justify the hit on the nape.
“Mahirap naman magsalita kasi hindi ko naman nakita yung sitwasyon talaga kung sino ba may kasalanan, kung sino ba dapat kumuha ng bola.”
“Sana hindi umabot sa ganun kasi televised yan. Either way tama man yung import hindi pa rin maganda tignan na may ganung nangyayari within the team. Di ba yun ngang against the opponent hindi na maganda e tapos within the team pa.”
The former Balipure coach also said he understands Dzakovic’s frustration and he is glad the Montenegrin import has apologized, but stressed that no player shouldn’t be treated like that.
“Lagi kong sinasabi sa mga players, We have to learn from our mistakes kaya lang bakit kailangan we learn it the hard way?” Gorayeb said. “Pwede naman nating matutunan yan ng madaling pamamaraan pero bakit kailangan may dagok?”
Gorayeb said he will see Bermillo on Monday and they will discuss what happened.
